Our Water

Water Management Services is dedicated to providing you and your family with great-tasting water and excellent service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our experienced staff constantly monitors the quantity and quality of the island's water supply to ensure that it meets or exceeds all federal and state standards for safe drinking water.

Water Supply
The water supply for St. George Island is drawn from the Florida Aquifer and is accessed through four deep wells in Eastpoint, Florida. The water is then pumped to the island through a 12” ductile iron water supply main attached to the St. George Island bridge.

Our water plant is located near the center of the island and includes a 300,000-gallon ground storage tank, a 150,000-gallon elevated storage tank, a chlorination system and other treatment facilities. The water is treated by aeration and chlorination before it is pumped through PVC lines to customers throughout the island.

Two of the wells have generators to provide auxiliary power in the event of power failure.

Water Testing
A critical aspect of our quality assurance program is frequent, rigorous laboratory testing of water samples drawn from each well site and from locations throughout the island. We prepare an annual Water Quality Report* and mail printed copies to all customers by June 30th of each year.

Recent Improvements
Since 2001, Water Management has invested approximately $6.3 million to improve water services for St. George Island. These investments include:

  • Approximately 5 miles of new 12" ductile iron water supply main
    (required following the State of Florida's construction of the new St. George Island bridge)
  • Approximately 34,000 linear feet of 6" and 8" distribution lines
  • Renovation and reconstruction of the water plant facility
  • Substantial electrical and pumping enhancements
  • Various plant improvements designed to provide increased fire protection for our customers
